Description
Investment banking is the business of raising capital for companies and providing advising services on financing and merger activities. This course looks at the typical structures associated with investment banks and their key activities and sources of revenue, namely Mergers and Acquisitions (M & A) advice, underwriting, sales and trading, asset management, and prime brokerage.
Objectives
- Define the key organizational structures used in investment banking
- Recall how conflicts of interest can arise in investment banking activity
- Recognize the main types of Mergers and Acquisitions (M & A) transaction, how these deals are financed, and the fees earned by investment banks in M & A business
- Identify the key issues in underwriting business, the price setting methods involved, and the main participants
- List the other major lines of business in investment banking such as sales and trading, asset management, and prime brokerage
